Walt Disney's Boyhood Home, Dreaming Tree, Farm, and Barn

Date: July 15, 2014 Duration: 14m 29s
In 1906, Walt Disney's Father Elias Disney moved his wife Flora and their children, Herbert, Ray, Roy, Walter, and Ruth to the small town of Marceline, Missouri. Now Justin takes a Randomland look at what's left to see of Walt Disney's Childhood Home, including the Dreaming Tree and the 2001 reconstruction of the Disney Barn. The Disneys left just four short years later, but Walt would always consider Marceline, and particularly the Disney farm, as his home. Take a look at the property that the man who built Disneyland and Directed an organization that created hundreds of classic characters and films considered his roots Check out our video of the town of Marceline (including the Walt Disney Hometown Museum) right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfD8fxcIIk0 Visit our website http://www.livefastdiepoor.com and SUBSCRIBE to this channel (it's free!) for more videos from Historical sites, Disneyland, Tiki places, and much more! 1:16 in this house very long really in the grand scheme of things, but this place
1:17 grand scheme of things, but this place

2:03 fraas. Now, old Elias was a pretty firm,
2:03 fraas. Now, old Elias was a pretty firm, pretty religious, pretty grim American
2:05 pretty religious, pretty grim American

5:28 when Walt was a boy. Now, of course,
5:28 when Walt was a boy. Now, of course, when this was Elias's farm, you wouldn't
5:29 when this was Elias's farm, you wouldn't
5:29 when this was Elias's farm, you wouldn't have seen so much shrubbery. Most of
5:31 have seen so much shrubbery. Most of
5:31 have seen so much shrubbery. Most of this was all just open fields, but 5
5:34 this was all just open fields, but 5
5:34 this was all just open fields, but 5 acres of the property were dedicated to
5:37 acres of the property were dedicated to
5:37 acres of the property were dedicated to orchards. And Walt Disney said, "We had
5:39 orchards. And Walt Disney said, "We had

5:54 of wildlife to sort of spark Walt
5:54 of wildlife to sort of spark Walt Disney's imagination. You had foxes and
5:57 Disney's imagination. You had foxes and
5:57 Disney's imagination. You had foxes and raccoons and possums.
5:59 raccoons and possums.
5:59 raccoons and possums. And there were birds. Even for those who
6:02 And there were birds. Even for those who
6:02 And there were birds. Even for those who don't know much about Disney history,
6:04 don't know much about Disney history,
6:04 don't know much about Disney history, this is amazing. The path to the barn is
6:06 this is amazing. The path to the barn is
6:06 this is amazing. The path to the barn is lined with signs that sort of explain
6:08 lined with signs that sort of explain
6:08 lined with signs that sort of explain the significance of it and the history
6:10 the significance of it and the history
6:10 the significance of it and the history behind it, as well as this quote from
6:13 behind it, as well as this quote from
6:13 behind it, as well as this quote from Walt Disney. To tell the truth, more
6:15 Walt Disney. To tell the truth, more
6:15 Walt Disney. To tell the truth, more things of importance happened to me in
6:17 things of importance happened to me in
6:17 things of importance happened to me in Marceline than have happened to me since
6:20 Marceline than have happened to me since
6:20 Marceline than have happened to me since or are likely to in the future. This is
6:22 or are likely to in the future. This is
6:22 or are likely to in the future. This is the man who built Disneyland. I mean,
6:25 the man who built Disneyland. I mean,
6:25 the man who built Disneyland. I mean, that's a crazy statement. This place
6:27 that's a crazy statement. This place
6:27 that's a crazy statement. This place really meant a lot to Walt.
6:41 This is fantastic. And because it's not
6:41 This is fantastic. And because it's not a working barn and they know it's sort
6:43 a working barn and they know it's sort
6:43 a working barn and they know it's sort of a pilgrimage site for people who are
6:45 of a pilgrimage site for people who are
6:45 of a pilgrimage site for people who are interested in Walt Disney or fans of his
6:47 interested in Walt Disney or fans of his
6:47 interested in Walt Disney or fans of his work, they actually allow guests to the
6:49 work, they actually allow guests to the
6:49 work, they actually allow guests to the barn and visitors to sign their name or
6:51 barn and visitors to sign their name or
6:51 barn and visitors to sign their name or to write some personal messages to Walt
6:53 to write some personal messages to Walt
6:53 to write some personal messages to Walt on the inside of the barn. Here's a
6:56 on the inside of the barn. Here's a
6:56 on the inside of the barn. Here's a really cute one. Floor, will you marry
6:57 really cute one. Floor, will you marry
6:58 really cute one. Floor, will you marry me? Yes. Floor said yes. Floor said yes.
7:03 me? Yes. Floor said yes. Floor said yes.
7:03 me? Yes. Floor said yes. Floor said yes. This barn is magical.
7:06 This barn is magical.
7:06 This barn is magical. Now, this barn was raised in 2001 for
7:09 Now, this barn was raised in 2001 for
7:09 Now, this barn was raised in 2001 for Walt's 100th birthday. And people from
7:11 Walt's 100th birthday. And people from
7:11 Walt's 100th birthday. And people from all over came and had an oldfashioned
7:13 all over came and had an oldfashioned
7:13 all over came and had an oldfashioned barn raising to put it together, but
7:15 barn raising to put it together, but
7:15 barn raising to put it together, but this is actually a reconstruction of the
7:18 this is actually a reconstruction of the
7:18 this is actually a reconstruction of the barn from Walt Disney's backyard in Los
7:20 barn from Walt Disney's backyard in Los
7:20 barn from Walt Disney's backyard in Los Angeles. He called it his happy place.
7:23 Angeles. He called it his happy place.
7:23 Angeles. He called it his happy place. He'd go out there and sort of tinker
7:24 He'd go out there and sort of tinker
7:24 He'd go out there and sort of tinker away from the cares of the studio or his
7:26 away from the cares of the studio or his
7:26 away from the cares of the studio or his family. He'd mess around with new ideas
7:28 family. He'd mess around with new ideas
7:28 family. He'd mess around with new ideas for technology or just mess with the
7:30 for technology or just mess with the
7:30 for technology or just mess with the engine or the cars from his miniature
7:32 engine or the cars from his miniature
7:32 engine or the cars from his miniature railroad. But the barn in his backyard
7:35 railroad. But the barn in his backyard
7:35 railroad. But the barn in his backyard was actually based off the barn in a
7:37 was actually based off the barn in a
7:37 was actually based off the barn in a movie called So Dear to My Heart, which
7:39 movie called So Dear to My Heart, which
7:39 movie called So Dear to My Heart, which Disney made, which itself was based on
7:42 Disney made, which itself was based on
7:42 Disney made, which itself was based on his memories of the barn here on the
7:45 his memories of the barn here on the
7:45 his memories of the barn here on the farm in Marceline. So, it's kind of
7:47 farm in Marceline. So, it's kind of
7:47 farm in Marceline. So, it's kind of interesting that you go from barn to
7:49 interesting that you go from barn to
7:49 interesting that you go from barn to Disney movies to Walt Disney's backyard
7:51 Disney movies to Walt Disney's backyard
7:51 Disney movies to Walt Disney's backyard and the railroad that he had running
7:53 and the railroad that he had running
7:53 and the railroad that he had running around the barn there inspired
7:54 around the barn there inspired
7:54 around the barn there inspired Disneyland and then later it comes full
7:57 Disneyland and then later it comes full
