I finally carved a BIG Tiki! And it only took 20 years... kinda. Sometimes Vlog 7.15.23
I carved my first big TIKI! Fascinated by Disneyland and then plunged into the wild weird world of Oceanic Arts in Whittier CA, My first attempt was over 20 years ago.. Spoiler alert, it did not end well! I thought I'd never be able to carve wood but ... Never say never! Because now I've finally got the first big Randomland Tiki in the Jungle back here, and I've also been working on Tiki masks for other people, just in super limited runs, just for the fun of it. Lately it feels like a lot of struggles and not a lot of joys, so come share the joy of my backyard Adventureland with me! Growing up in the remnants of a mid century county in California where the height of the tiki boom still leaves us with island themed apartments and tropical fantasy plants in every dentist office parking lot, how can I help but feel like my own little Adventureland is a part of the culture of Southern California!
