Anne of Green Gables filming locations - in Ontario!
Everyone thinks Anne of Green Gables was filmed entirely on Prince Edward Island — but much of Kevin Sullivan’s iconic 1985 miniseries was actually filmed in Ontario. In this Randomland adventure, we step straight into Lucy Maud Montgomery’s world and visit the real-life filming sites that brought Avonlea to life.
At Westfield Heritage Village, we find Bright River Station where Anne first arrived by train, the orphanage, the puff-sleeved dress scene at Lawson’s General Store, the Hammond Mill and home, and even the churchyard where Matthew Cuthbert is buried. That same church is also where Anne finally marries Gilbert Blythe.
Then it’s off to Pickering Museum Village, where Anne balanced on the ridgepole of Moody Spurgeon’s roof, and where Carmody Town Hall was brought to life for one of the most memorable scenes. These historic Ontario villages played a starring role in filming one of the most beloved adaptations of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic.
